The Kenyan government officially introduced the HPV vaccine into the national routine immunization programme. The vaccine, which targets the Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) that promote the development of cancer of the cervix, had been out of reach for many families. Now it will be administered free to all 10 year old girls, given in 2 doses, 6 months apart. In a country, where cervical cancer kills more women than any other cancer, the HPV vaccine is touted as the best shot of prevention. Tonight, our special feature, vaccine-nation, looks at the journey from the pilot phase to the rollout of the vaccine. It explores the stakes, the concerns and the big questions that have surrounded it.
