In this video I go through your first Upper Body Strength Exercise Program after Breast Cancer Surgery or Treatment. This set of exercises is the first upper body strength program that I prescribe my patients after Breast Cancer treatment. I educate you on what specific upper body exercises to perform, how often to perform the exercises, what equipment to use, and what to do to avoid triggering lymphoedema. I explain how many reps and sets to perform, as well as rest between sets, and discuss why recovery days between sessions are vital to progress.

I also explain when to cease these exercises, or hold off from even starting this program. It is important to consult with your Medical Team prior to commencing an exercise program after Breast Cancer treatment. If you have any persistent pain or symptoms that concern you, then stop performing these exercises and consult your treating medical specialist.

The side effects of Breast Cancer treatment can leave you feeling physically and mentally fatigued. More specifically, it can significantly impact your sleep quality, mental health, body image, bone stock, muscle mass, muscle strength and energy levels. Strength or resistance exercise is a fantastic way to combat the side effects of Breast Cancer. Exercise and Breast Cancer has been heavily researched and all medical and health professionals should advocate exercise as an adjunct therapy to help combat the side effects of Breast Cancer treatment.

Strength training can also significantly reduce your risk of lymphoedema following Breast Cancer - however, it is vital to understand how to commence an exercise program after Breast Cancer treatment to avoid triggering lymphoedema. I cover all of these important points in this video.
