Fluid coming out of patients’ nipples is a common complaint that our Medical Director Dr. Jay Harness hears on a regular basis. Many patients are concerned that their nipples are leaking fluid, even though they are not pregnant.

Dr. Harness discusses that fluid discharge cases range from blood with a watery, green fluid to a rust-colored fluid. You are probably thinking, “Is discharge normal? Is this an early sign of breast cancer?”

The good news is, not all nipple discharge is a bad sign. Some nipple fluids can simply be your milk.

Dr. Jay Harness explains what your nipple discharge is telling you and if this is an indicator of breast cancer.
