HIPEC is an advanced form of therapy for advanced cancers in abdomen. This cancers were previously considered to be incurable, with chemotherapy being the only option prolonging the life at best by few months.
With Cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC therapy this 31 year old girl who had come to us as an advanced case of peritoneal mesothelioma ( a form of uncommon abdomen cancer ) got a second shot at life as she could defeat the deadly C by her faith and sheer courage. 1 year post treatment she is absolutely fine and sharing this message for others to take a leaf out of her book and not lose hope.
HIPEC ( Hypothermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) is a technique where we circulate heated chemotherapy in the abdomen immediately after a major surgery where all the visible cancer cells are removed. In laymanโ€™s terms itโ€™s like a warm chemo bath to the abdomen for more efficient killing of cancer cells to enable better cure.
It can be offered to patients of CA OVARY, APPENDIX CANCER, MUCINOUS TUMORS OF PERITONEUM ( PSEUDOMYXOMA PERITONEI), PERITONEAL MESOTHELIOMA, CANCERS OF STOMACH AND COLON and some other uncommon tumors.
