Glioblastoma—the most commonly-diagnosed brain cancer | OSUCCC – James
While glioblastomas are difficult to treat, comprehensive treatment plans provide patients with the best therapies for the disease.
Glioblastgoma is a type of malignant brain cancer that belongs to the glioma disease group. It’s diagnosed in approximately two-to-five people per 100,000, but is the most frequently common brain cancer in the U.S.
Cases of glioblastoma can present treatment challenges for patients and doctors for many reasons, including their tendency to spread rapidly. Symptoms of these tumors include headaches from pressure in the head, as well as seizures, difficulty speaking and numbness and/or weakness in one side of the body.
Though difficult to treat, team approaches like those employed at Ohio State can provide patients with the best care from the day of diagnosis.
“These patients need multiple different specialists, and that care has to be coordinated,” Pierre Giglio, MD, says. “So, all those different services have to be linked together to afford best patient care.”
