Gastric cancer/stomach cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and multi-disciplinary management is the key. Recently, the molecular classification of gastric cancer has been updated in literature and it is showing prognostic significance. The Lauren classification is also discussed in the video and the pros and cons are compared with the molecular classification.
Dr. Nilesh Lokeshwar explains the basics of gastric cancer, and its hereditary predisposition and then embarks on the journey of explaining the molecular classification.
All four types are explained in requisite detail to aid in the understanding of the students. Microsatellite instability, chromosomal instability, genomic stability and Epstein Barr virus type-molecular types are discussed and their
prognostic relevance addressed.
