Alex Goodwin traveled from England to receive lifesaving treatment at The University of Kansas Cancer Center’s Sarcoma Center. Alex, who was 9 at the time, suffered from Ewing sarcoma, had been misdiagnosed multiple times and was given only months to live. His parents refused to give up and sought treatment in Kansas City. Here, Howard Rosenthal, MD, surgical oncologist and sarcoma specialist, removed Alex’s diseased femur, hip and knee joints and replaced them with a growing prosthetic bone.
