“When I first heard I had cancer I was scared,” says James, “and I ran to my room and cried. “ James was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of aggressive bone and tissue cancer. During his treatment, he lost feeling in his fingers, which meant he couldn’t play the piano. When that happened, he lost his sense of purpose. Once he finished chemotherapy, he was declared cancer-free—and he regained the feeling in his fingers and resumed his concert schedule. James promotes the vital role laboratory professionals and pathologists play in cancer diagnosis and treatment during pediatric cancer awareness events.
