Lynch Syndrome is the most common hereditary colon cancer syndrome. It puts patients at increased risk for colon, ovarian, endometrial and other cancers. As Peter Stanich, MD, a gastroenterologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, explains, discovering you or another family member has Lynch Syndrome leads to more frequent cancer screening which can significantly reduce risk of developing cancer in the first place. The Ohio Colon Cancer Initiative has been started to support tumor and genetic testing of all colon cancer patients in the state so that they and their family members can benefit from more frequent screening and important cancer risk reduction.
