Avery: The Piano and Childhood Cancer
http://bit.ly/SBF_Avery
175,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year. Their lives drastically change, and many lose the ability to "run, jump, play at the park, ride bikes or scooters."
Avery is one of the 175,000 kids. She was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma, a type of childhood brain tumor, in June 2011 at 8 years old. Her attitude about having a brain tumor is, "Some people get cancer and others don't. This is just what I have to deal with."
At the St. Baldrick's Foundation, we believe kids shouldn't have to "deal with" cancer. We fund more in childhood cancer research than any other organization except the U.S. government - all made possible by the thousands of St. Baldrick's volunteers around the world who raise money in unique and creative ways (head-shaving being the most popular).
It is our hope that one day when a doctor says, "your child has cancer," they'll be able to respond with, "but we have a cure."
