So much anxiety with all appointments...

I also experienced this weird thing; so many doctors and nurses reminded me of people that I knew. This was not a coping technique that I forced myself to do, it just kind of naturally happened. It may be helpful for you if you look for things in people that remind you of your loved ones and give you comfort.
