In this JACC Journal Club session, we explore groundbreaking research on novel therapies for transthyretin (TTR) amyloidosis featuring Drs. Matthew Maurer and Michelle Kittleson. Learn how acoramidis and vutrisiran impact survival, how biomarkers like serum TTR/prealbumin guide therapy, and why early diagnosis is critical. This expert-led discussion offers clinical insights on managing ATTR-CM, optimizing treatment strategies, and improving patient access to care.

The Institute for Future Health (IFH) second annual Updates in Amyloidosis Continuing Medical Education (CME) Conference at the Gila River Casino at Wild Horse Pass on Sat. Feb. 3, 2024. The conference brought together leading Valley experts in cardiology and amyloidosis, a primary rapidly emerging topic that interconnects several medical specialists from cardiovascular and neurologic conditions to renal and pulmonary complications, creating a multi-organ involvement if left undiagnosed/or not properly treated. The event was supported in part by AstraZeneca and included a sponsored coffee break by BridgeBio and a product theater lunch hosted by Alnylam.

The treatment for patients with ATTR Transthyretin Cardiac Amyloidosis has advanced significantly since 2018 when there were no FDA-approved therapies. In this episode of All Things Amyloid, we hear from Dr. Mat Maurer at Columbia University. Adapted from his video he shares how diagnostic imaging techniques have significantly improved, thereby reducing the need for an invasive heart biopsy. In addition, he shares fascinating statistics on how the age and stage of diagnosis has been evolving. Based on today’s clinical trials, providers are optimistic that the expansion of options for patient care will continue. The future is indeed looking brighter. His video can be found in the Education Hub (https://mm713.org/future-for-p....atients-with-transth on Mackenzie’s Mission website. For an overview of amyloidosis, please see episode 2 (for clinicians) or episode 3 (for patients).

Joining us today to discuss using AI-ECG to detect cardiac amyloidosis is David M. Harmon, Jr. M.D., cardiology fellow at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Harmon’s research interests include the clinical application of artificial intelligence electrocardiography and assessing the utility of AI algorithms on wearable devices. Tune in to learn about using AI-ECG to detect cardiac amyloidosis.
Specific topics discussed:
• Can you share a little background as to why AI-ECG for cardiac amyloidosis screening?
• What are some of the most surprising results of your validation study? What are the biggest
limitations you found in this work?
• What are some next steps for this algorithm?
